Floating in Green
This figure, with a big, red, happy, joyful smile, is from Shirley’s imagination. They’re floating, like a lot of her figures. Shirley likes the sky, and the pink clouds. Shirley was
experimenting with using a wash, and using her headpointer gave her a lot of movement with her brushstrokes. She liked green that day.
A Hole in the Universe
Shirley’s head movement was quite important in this painting – she really worked the round spiral to achieve the tunnel effect. It feels to Shirley like a hole in the universe – like a portal into her imagination. There’s a calm in the centre of the hole – with light coming through from behind in subtle gold. Shirley likes the earthy colour of the brown, and how it contrasts with the watery blues and the warmth of the sunlight. Her favourite purple is in their too.
