Exhibition of Spark Studio Artists’ Work
Spark Studio mounted a major exhibition last year at Corban Estate Arts Centre. Exhibited were the art works of artists who took part in “Language Through Art” and “The Printed Image” courses. The exhibition was called “I Speak!” and told the story of each artist. The artists from the “Language through Art” course turned their works into thought provoking hand made books, while the artists from “The Printed Image” course expressed their stories through framed prints throughout the gallery.
Artist Allyson Hamblett comments:
“The opening night was 20th November 2008, and was a celebration of the personal journeys we went through to tell our stories. Every emotion came through each art work, and gave the public three weeks of challenging pre-conceived notions of disability – hopefully knocking over some stereotypes in the process.”
“I Speak!” was very significant for Spark Studio and the artists involved, because it was the first time a major exhibition was held in a mainstream gallery.
