Draw to Print
Following the huge success of this programme last year, which culminated in a stall at the Grey Lynn Park festival, we are pleased to offer this class to people of all abilities.
This programme teaches drawing and printmaking and will culminate in an exhibition of the artists’ work – printmaking is an exciting medium that has potential for commercial application and outcomes.
As printmaking fundamentally concerns the reproduction of images through mark making and layered effect, drawing is an important skill to develop. In Draw to Print students will receive an in depth introduction to drawing; they will learn techniques and processes of drawing and be introduced to a range of media and mark making, exploring tones, textures and pattern. They will examine content and consider their choice of subject matter and the ideas they wish to express – and the ways to most effectively portray those ideas in art making.
Students will learn about drawing in relation to print making including design-components in composition and colour, the deliberate use of tension and space created through mark making and the various ways printing inks are applied to create different effect.
Students will also learn a variety of processes in printmaking including: mono-print, monotype, collagraphs, stenciling, stamping, etching, caran d’ache and screen printing.
The content will be self-directed.
There will be three tutors on the floor which means participants receive a high level of personal attention and expert tuition.
We are thrilled to announce that Spark Studio received a special mention at the Big A Creative Space Awards 2009 for our ‘outstanding contribution to enhancing the lives of people who have been marginalised’. A certificate was presented to Suzanne Vesty at a ceremony hosted by the Hon. Christopher Finlayson, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage at Parliament on 6 July.
